Teaching Methods

The theoretical-practical classes are composed by a detailed exposition of the concepts, principles and fundamental theories related to the behaviour of the shallow and deep foundations, and earth retaining structures. The students will solve problems proposed regarding the topics lectured, with emphasis to the application of the knowledge to real situations. A practical project will be developed to the level of a detailed design.

Learning Outcomes

The student shall be able to understand and apply the design principles for shallow and deep foundations, verifying their safety according to Eurocodes. The external (geotechnical) and internal (structural) design must be complemented with the detailing drawings, ready for production.
The student shall also know the constructive solutions for earth retaining structures, in order to be able to select the most appropriate solution for each situation. With this curricular unit, the student will be able to design reinforced concrete T walls and will have good understanding regarding the design of muti-proped/anchored walls.
