Recommended Prerequisites

- Construction materials.

- Mechanic of materials.

Teaching Methods

During the teaching of the discipline, a theoretical exposure of concepts mentioned in syllabus will be performed with exam evaluation. In parallel, examples of case studies which demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical knowledge will be presented. In addition, laboratory and/or in-situ classes will be schedule to show how the most common non-destructive methodologies operate and could be implemented in timber structures. A report and a synthetises of the most adequate methodologies will be also part of the evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

- Development of knowledge related to patologies from timber structures;

- Obtaining knowledge on wood durability;

- Provision of knowledge related to non-destructive technologies for timber structures assessment (local and global scale) and its potential in combination with rastreability;

- Development of knowledge related to timber structures monitoring;

- Empowerment of the need and potential of monitoring timber structures.

Work Placement(s)
