Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge at the level of the first cycle related to Construction Physics and Construction Materials.

Teaching Methods

In the teaching of the discipline, the presentation of theoretical concepts and general knowledge related to the themes defined in the program of the discipline is foreseen, further elaborating them for the specific case of wood-based solutions. In teaching, case studies and resolution of application exercises will be carried out. During the course, students have the possibility to attend laboratory tests presented in classes related to the characterization of the acoustic and thermal performance of solutions. The student's evaluation will be based on a written exam.

Learning Outcomes

The main objective of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with wood-based construction solutions for buildings and to understand their potential at the thermal and acoustic level. It is intended that students develop skills in terms of performance evaluation and of the calculation and design of solutions.

• Introduction to the functional requirements of buildings

• Hygrothermal behavior

            General concepts of heat and mass transfer phenomena

            Evaluation and calculation of the hygrothermal performance of elements / solutions

            Regulations on thermohygrometric performance in buildings

• Acoustic Behavior

            General elements of building and enclosed space acoustics

            Insulation to aerial and impact noise - calculation and evaluation by measurement

            Regulations on the acoustic performance of buildings

• Wood based construction solutions - calculation, performance and compatibility of hygrothermal and acoustic requirements.
