Teaching Methods
Presential or online lectures, with pre-availability of the support documentation and, whenever applicable and possible, with small practical demos of devices or techniques. The evaluation will be based on tests.
Learning Outcomes
As with others construction materials, timber requires protection, execution and maintenance provisions to protect it from depletive hazards, namely those due to biologic agents. Such measures are particularly important, given the speed with which a improperly designed timber construction may degrade and the scarce knowledge of the technical community with this respect, lower to that of other construction materials. On the other hand, given the relevant existing number of timber constructions of either an heritage nature or not, the base knowledge for repair and rehabilitation interventions is also needed, and these always rely on data obtained from on-site inspection.
