Teaching Methods

The teaching model will be mostly expository (theoretical-practical classes) complemented by study visits. Theoretical classes will be based on the exposition of the syllabus through audiovisual media to contextualize and present timber as a building material, what are the basic elements and the types of construction, traditional and modern. The case studies will be focused in real examples of projects with this material. The evaluation method will comprise a written exam (60%) and a research work (40%), focused on the covered concepts.

Learning Outcomes

This unit aims to introduce students to timber construction, namely wood as a building material throughout Human history; building systems, traditional and modern. Its main objective is to provide the student with knowledge about construction with timber from a non-structural point of view while creating the foundations for the architectural design of wooden solutions.
