Thesis Project in Condensed Matter Physics

Recommended Prerequisites

Dependent on the scientific field of the thesis. The interim supervisor may, until the end of the first semester, recommend the enrollment and approval in additional curricular units of the UC, of 3rd or 2nd cycles, in a total of up to 18 ECTS, not accountable as ECTS of the PhD program (artº 23º, nº 2, Regulamento de Atividades Académicas da FCTUC). The attendance of these curricular units will not be charged with additional fees.

Teaching Methods

The provisional supervisor discusses and supervises the planning of work and, when this is concluded, makes a proposal for a jury composed by academic staff members and researchers with expertise in the field; the student is then submitted to a public examination for discussion of the proprosed project.

Learning Outcomes

According to the regulations of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology the purpose of this curricular unit is to defend before a jury a plan for the thesis work as well as its practicability.
