Type
Compulsory
Level
2nd Cycle Studies - Mestrado

Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge in the area of general and exercise physiology.

Teaching Methods

Contact hours include theoretical classes, theoretical-practical classes and guided research activities in the laboratory context. During the theoretical classes, knowledge of exercise physiology is deepened and in the theoretical-practical ones, students are encouraged to develop evaluation methodologies using the available laboratory equipment. Spaces are created for presenting research carried out in order to stimulate critical thinking and reinforce the importance of an adequate methodology to the questions asked. Evaluation includes writtten test, problem solving and research work.

Learning Outcomes

The discipline of applied exercise physiology builds on the knowledge of general physiology and exercise physiology already acquired in the first cycle. The student must know and master laboratory and field instruments and procedures and know how to apply theoretical knowledge in the methodologies of training and assessment of strength, aerobic and anaerobic power, physiological adaptations that occur in the cardiovascular system and in the particular case of exercise in pregnancy.
