Teaching Methods

The teaching methods have a teorethical phase in order to introduce the major contents of the syllabus. This component will be complemented with problems based learning (PBL) activities. Some digital platforms will be use with the goal of increase the integration between theorical and pratical concepts learning skils. Student evaluation includes literature review (60%) and problem solving (40%).   

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unity aims to provide technical knowledge for the preparation of scientific work. Students should be able to systematically review literature, develop research projects, write a scientific paper and know how to obtain scientific data correctly (minimizing error), and how to interpret research data in order to write a dissertation / report.

Syllabus

Scientific research: objectives, characteristics, types and divisions. The research process; the research questions and the main goals, originality and ethics. The literature review: how to deal with the research topic and with the literature sources. Elaboration of the literature review (systematic review). Types of scientific articles. How to elaborate the experimental design and how to write a research project. The collection of data. Good laboratory practices and how they can influence the reliability of the data obtained.

How to write a scientific article and a thesis. Method and bibliographic standards.

How to prepare an oral presentation. Rules for drawing tables, graphs and slides.
