Teaching Methods

The sessions are organized based on collective discussion, supported by: a) presentation of concepts and methodologies by the teacher; b) selected scientific and technical  texts; c) empirical materials resulting from scientific research and exploratory research on relevant practical cases.  Students participate actively through oral presentations and group dinamics. The course also benefits from the experience of invited researchers and experts.

Learning Outcomes

The curricular unit addresses the role of culture in shaping social and economic life in cities, focusing in particular on its place and importance in urban planning policies and strategies. It develops the following skills:

- Familiarization with main theoretical and analytical concepts and models for understanding the cultural dynamics of contemporary cities, and cultural and urban planning policies.

- Learning methodologies for socioeconomic analysis and diagnosis of cultural phenomena and sociocultural intervention in urban space

- Deepening critical and reflexive capacities on processes of cultural planning and intervention in urban context.

4. The culturally plural city: cultural contaminations, disputes, and tensions in the planning and use of urban space

5. Mouvements between the top and the bottom: the participation of community in the cultural planning of the city.
