Teaching Methods

Theoretical-Practical classes, predominantly expository, using audio-visual media and frequent use of large archives of digital photography and urban cartography.

Presentations and debates on national and international case studies will be promoted, privileging the European space.

Two or three of the classes are dedicated to the presentation and debate, by groups of students, of urban and/or building rehabilitation operations, publicly known for their quality and/or uniqueness.

Learning Outcomes

Provide students with a general knowledge of the issue of urban rehabilitation, the main trends and European experiences in this field, its advantages and constraints, as well as the necessary instruments for its pursuit.

Provide students with a general knowledge of the issue of building rehabilitation and its role in urban rehabilitation policies and operations, according to different perspectives: technological, environmental, economic, social and cultural.

Upon completing the curricular unit, the student must master the most common lexicon of urban rehabilitation and buildings and be able to participate in debates on urban rehabilitation strategies and operations, whether in the field of buildings, from cultural heritage to current heritage, or in the public space and infrastructure, as well as participating in the work of multidisciplinary teams, working in the field of urban management.
