Teaching Methods

After the exposure and explanation of the defined topics, students are expected to be able to apply the theoretical concepts in practical theoretical classes, namely in solving practical cases.

Learning Outcomes

This UC aims to provide students with the basic theoretical notions that allow them to understand the importance of food and nutrition in the training and competition of athletes and athletes, considering the latest scientific evidence. It also aims to provide students with the fundamental tools to understand supplementation in the sports context and for potential advise or advise against the use of food supplements.

1- Goals of sports nutrition.

2- Nutrition as a determinant of adaptation to training and competitive performance.

3- Macronutrient, micronutrient and energy needs and recommendations for athletes.

4- Water needs.

5- Ingredients and active principles with activity in sports performance.

6 - Distinction between food supplements, sports foods and conventional foods.

7- Specificities of the athlete and the respective modalities in food supplementation.

8- Quality and safety criteria for choosing food supplements for athletes.

9- Risks in the consumption of food supplements by high competition athletes (Doping and tampering).
