Recommended Prerequisites

Good Level of General Inorganic and Organic Chemistry knowledge.

Teaching Methods

Lectures will be given in which topics from the curriculum of the course will be presented/discusses.  Exercises will be used to discuss/demonstrate the topics presented. The student will choose a topic related to the curriculum to carry out an oral/written research work containing an example of the development of a chemical reaction that uses the principles of green and sustainable chemistry, wchich may be transferable to the teaching of chemistry in basic and secondary schools.

Learning Outcomes

The general goal of this UC is the development of skills/knowledge to implement chemical processes accordingly to the principles of green chemistry, aiming the sustainability of the planet.

Specific objectives:

1. Recognize and apply basic green chemistry principles.

2. Acquire ability to analyze and understand chemical reactions involving alternative solvents, solventless reactions and micro-scale reactions .

3 Acquire skills to transmite the acqired knowledge onto Chemistry Teaching  context applying good environmental practices.

4. Know how to formulate hypothetical situations/strategies to perform chemical reactions with lower energy consumption and non-toxic solvents/reagents.

5. Understand how to use information sources. Ability to search and use databases and bibliography.
