Teaching Methods

The lectures have a traditional format, guided by the exposition in slides. In the practical lessons, students are guided in the analysis and introduced to the use of open-code didactic programs for numerical modelling. These are lessons with a strong degree of interactivity, analyzing, discussing and solving the problems that arise to each student.

The tutorial supervision is relatively important, since students often encounter difficulties, apparently insoluble for them, but easily solvable with the help of the teacher.

Learning Outcomes

The main goal is to provide the students the essential knowledge concerning the numerical modelling of heat and mass transport phenomena, associated or not with fluid flow, commonly known as computational fluid dynamics (CFD). After training and application to specific problems using open-source simulation programs, the students are also initiated into the use of a commercial CFD code.

It is expected that, by the end of the course, students have acquired a solid foundation that will enable them to understand the potential and limitations of the most common CFD tools, being able to use them in an effective and thorough way in their professional practice, engineering or research.
