Operations Management.

Teaching Methods

Seminars and tutorial sessions on the above-mentioned syllabus contents will be conducted. Once the basic skills are acquired, the tutorial sessions will be oriented according to the specific work to be carried out by each student, which should be as much as possible of potential interest for his/her doctoral thesis.

Evaluation element: detailed report critically describing the main theoretical and methodological approaches commonly used on a topic that is aligned with the student's interest vis-a-vis his/her PhD thesis.

Learning Outcomes

The course explores themes related to Operations Management, whether in the industrial or service context, in order to contribute to discussions and debates at the frontiers of knowledge on some of the most relevant topics in this field. It is intended that the student:

• Know and discuss emerging issues in the context of Operations Management.

• Be able to identify and discuss the theoretical lenses usually used in the context of research in Operations Management;

• Be able to identify and discuss the methodological approaches usually used in the context of research in Operations Management.

Emerging themes in the Operations Management context in particularly in the areas of 1) Operational Systems, 2) Sustainable Operations, 3) Supply Chain Management, and 4) Innovation and Project Management.

Main theoretical lenses in the Operations Management context (e.g., resource-based view, dynamic capabilities, institutional theory, transaction-cost theory, contingency theory).

Main methodological approaches in the Operations Management context (e.g., survey, case study, action-research, ethnography).
