Learning Outcomes

The objective of the course is to introduce the different methods and processes applied to drinking water treatment before human use and treatment of municipal wastewater before disposing into the environment.

Mastering the study of the principles and design of water treatment processes, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection (chlorination), and membrane filtration.

Syllabus

Prior to scientific work, the course will start with a description of the water resources, quality and treatment in France and the specificity of the French water administration and regulation.

After course completion, the students should be able to select the appropriate processes necessary to supply potable water or to treat wastewater system for a community.

Depending on availability and security requirements, this course will be completed by two visits: one of the drinking water plant of Poitiers (Bellejouane) and another one the wastewater treatment plant (La Folie). Also, two laboratory works will be performed at the engineering school of Poitiers.
