Teaching Methods
Lectures with the help of audiovisual media where concepts, principles and theories are presented. Practical exercises that meet all the needs of students are solved, with guidelines provided. In TP lectures guidance to solve some practical exercises is provided by professors. The practical classes are also used to support the students’ work on the practical assignments that are considered for grading.

Provide students with
(1) Fundamental knowledge about transportation planning concepts, methodologies, and techniques, as well as a good understanding of transportation planning processes.
(2) Important skills for their effective participation in transportation planning teams.

(1) Transportation systems. Transportation supply vs. demand. Transportation networks. Transportation modes. Transportation motives.
(2) Transportation planning process. Classic (Four-Step) Transportation Model (“Trip Generation”, “Trip Distribution”, “Modal Split” and “Traffic Assignment” modules).
(3) Environmental issues related with transportation. Sustainable mobility.
(4) Emission from transportation: main pollutants, emission factors, modelling techniques.
(5) Road transport and urban pollution: legislation background, current situation in Portugal, modelling techniques.
(6) Prevention and reduction measures for traffic related pollution.
