Teaching Methods

The assessment system is continuous and is based both on the individual monitoring of the work (40%), and on its periodic presentation to the class in situational points that stimulate an intelligible theoretical and practical discourse (20%). At the end of the semester, the work process will be evaluated as well as the elements included in the final delivery – synthesis of the project developed over the three semesters (40%). The attendance and participation of students will also be an evaluation factor. There is no appeal examination.

Learning Outcomes

Design StudioII B, completes the cycle of 3semesters in the project area which the main goals aim are research, reflection and proposal in the scope of the themes:Territory/City(API-1st semester), Program/Project(API-2nd Semester) and Materialization/Construction(APII-3rd semester). Based on the skills acquired in API - materialized in the architecture design of each student - this curricular unit seeks to promote the deepening of the work developed through the encouragement of research and the capacity for critical reflection between the architectural concepts and the building systems most suited to the materialization of the projects. It is intended that, through research and mastery of construction techniques appropriate to the scale and use of the building, the student can acquire working skills and critical reflection from the project, which should be constituted as a synthesis and main means of expression of the proposal of solving the themes and problems raised in Design studio.

Syllabus

The program focuses on issues of materialization and construction techniques of a building, implies the acquisition of knowledge in the scientific areas of Construction and Technologies. Starting from the project previously developed in API, with the encouragement of individual research, the acquisition of skills that promote effective means of control between the definition of architectural concepts and their implementation in reality is sought. The design problems and their resolution will be developed by drawing at different scales (1:50,1:20,1:1). At the same time, with the support of optional subjects in the construction area, it is intended to deepen the specific themes raised by each project. This promotes a comprehensive acquisition of design techniques aimed at an effective integration and articulation of the acquired knowledge. Ultimately, it seeks to simulate a work framework that is close to the one that the student will find in their professional life.
