Recommended Prerequisites

All the knowledge acquired in the curricular units of the Integrated Masters in Architecture up to the 9th Semester, namely in History, Theory of Architecture and Urbanism. Approval of the Thesis Project/Project Work in the Research Seminar. Approval in Design Studio I and II. Main competences: in analysis and synthesis; in critical reasoning; in investigating; in strategic planning; in organization. Secondary skills: in interpersonal relationships; in oral and written communication; in problem solving; in group work; in autonomous learning; in self-assessment. Technical skills related to the use of computer systems (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Autocad, Bibliographic consultation, databases). Skills in a foreign language, preferably English. 

Teaching Methods

The development of the dissertation will be done with direct monitoring of students in the following phases: - Continuous review of the Thesis Project/Project Work (theme, objectives, methodologies, case studies, structure and bibliography); - Critical review and development of the work done in Design Studio I and II; - Writing of the written component of the work in compliance with the criteria Originality, Rationale, Argumentation, Structuring, Synthesis; - Formatting the work, reviewing aspects of form for effective communication of content. 

Learning Outcomes

The curricular unit aims to carry out the Thesis Project/Project Work approved in the Research Seminar curricular unit, bearing in mind that its completion is the last step in academic training as an architect. It is intended that the student acquires a set of skills in the field of Architecture, namely: - research autonomy and synthesis capacity; - Crossing of knowledge obtained by design practice and its framing in architectural theory; - ability to communicate the results of the work in the respective supports - text and drawing; The specific objectives of the Research Seminar should be consolidated and deepened:

a) Relevance of the theme;

b) Critical reflection on the theme and sub-themes;

c) Original and autonomous thinking;

d) Mastering the methodological tools;

e) Generate, search and organize information;

f) Demonstration of the ability to interpret and act in the world as an Architect.
