Teaching Methods

Three complimentary activities will be carried out:

1 – Reading and Debate Seminars to introduce current topics in the scientific area.

2 - Presentation and discussion of scientific papers by the students.

3 – Elaboration of a paper, peer-reviewing, presentation and discussion in a workshop.

Evaluation:

- Presentations and participation in the seminar (quality of debate and revision): 50%

- Autonomous paper production (overall quality, presentation, discussion): 50%

Attendance to 75% of the total classes is mandatory.

Learning Outcomes

1. To reach an overview of the state of the art and main research challenges of the Information Systems scientific research area, and of its relations with information science.

2. To obtain knowledge and understanding about research projects and topics of the scientific area of the course under diverse perspectives, including scientific, methodological, management and communication.

3. To improve competencies of critical analysis of scientific works, synthesis, scientific writing, verbal and written communication, critical reasoning, autonomous learning, research and group integration.

Advanced research topics and methods in the following areas will be addressed:

- Introduction to Research in Information Systems

- Socio-Technical Studies of Information Systems

- Enterprise Architecture, Advanced Process Modeling

- Information Systems Development Approaches

- Service Orientation, experience and information quality

- Interacting with Information (AR/VR/MR or XR)

- The interdisciplinary crossroads IS x CSCW x HCI

Other topics may be analysed and discussed, within the general area of information systems, depending on their interest to the achievement of the course objectives.
