Recommended Prerequisites
Network Optimization in Transport.
Teaching Methods
Lectures combining theoretical explanations with conceptual and real-case discussions.
Learning Outcomes
Provide students with:
1) Fundamental knowledge about transport planning concepts, methodologies, and techniques, as well as a good understanding of transport planning processes.
2) Adequate skills for their effective participation in transport planning teams.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
1) Fundamental concepts (Transport planning process, Zoning and network modelling, Transport demand vs. supply, Transport modes/means - characterization and comparative analysis).
2) Classic (Four-Step) Transport Model (“Trip Generation”, “Trip Distribution”, “Modal Split” and “Traffic Assignment” modules), and its evolutions (disaggregated models).
3) Environmental problems related with transportation. Quantification of emissions.
4) Sustainable transport policies.
5) Practical considerations about the application of transport models.
6) Transport systems optimization. Planning and modelling of new transport solutions (shared, electric, and autonomous).
