Learning Outcomes

To provide

-the main concepts, methodologies and tools for the water management within an integrated perspective

-the understanding of the various issues involved (social, economic, environmental, technological, legal and political) in water management and associated ecosystems.

- the ability to analyze and reflect on water management problems, summarizing the various aspects involved, to interpret social objectives in the form of technical objectives, to conduct prospective analysis of the evolution of water needs for different sectors of activity to help define and evaluate in detail the numerous alternatives that represent the possible compromises between stakeholders and different management objectives, to represent in a structured way the interdependencies and interactions between infrastructure and water users, to evaluate potential model limitations to represent real problems, to debate appropriate choices.

Planning methodologies. International and National water resources legislation. Watershed master plans. National Water Master Plan. Water systems components. Water budgets. Decision making in water systems: technical, economic, social, legal environmental and political aspects. Governance. Public participation. Decision models: objective function, constraints and variables.  Multi-objective decision analysis. Cost- benefit analysis. Risk concept. Redundant, resilient and robust systems. Case studies.
