Recommended Prerequisites

Level B1 of the CEFR or aproval at French Language I - II and III.

Teaching Methods

Students should present orally a alysis of 1 article from french newspapers dealing with a theme (economics, social, political, conflicts, etc.) of national or international relevance.

To improve students’ oral skills, comprehension exercises will be given using excerpts from conferences, debates, interviews, and television and radio news programs. The reading and lexical and grammatical analysis of texts in the area of International Relations will enable a lexical and morphosyntactic study of the language.

Learning Outcomes

Students should reach level B1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The program contents, which are always in the area of International Relations, aims to provide the student with the skills to understand a vast number of long and demanding texts, recognizing their meanings, expressing themselves fluently without having to look for words, use language in a flexible and effective for social, academic and professional purposes, expressing itself on complex issues in a clear and well-structured manner, manifesting the domain of mechanisms of organization, articulation and cohesion of discourse.

Activities can be categorised into speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary development and self-improvement: Various reading, vocabulary and collocation exercises related to International Relations, Economics and Business French will include: World Economy; International Trade; Business Letters; Avoiding Plagiarism; Fair & Free Trade; Numbers, prices, dates, fractions and percentages

*the different kinds of word; collocation; phonetic symbols; phrasal verbs; idioms; transitive and intransitive verbs; countable and uncountable nouns; American and British English

*False Cognates; Prefixes and Suffixes; Discourse Markers; Modal Verbs/times and verbal modes.
