Teaching Methods

Lectures are used to explain concepts, models, instruments and techniques. Materials with key topics, diagrams, images, and videos are used. Real-world examples are used to illustrate the topics. Professional IT tools are used when adequate. The practical assignment enables students to exercise what they have learned in a real-word case.

Learning Outcomes

This course provides students with the skills and tools to understand how the often disruptive digital technologies can support organizations at the strategic and operational levels. The students completing this course will further understand the distinct and sometimes conflicting perspectives of business managers and IT professionals, thus becoming privileged actors in the dialog between those parties, leading to the deployment of effective solutions considering people, processes, and technology.

Syllabus

This course discusses the use of technology in organizations, in line with the concerns of digital transformation. It uses real-world examples to illustrate how digital technologies (e.g., cloud, big data, artificial intelligence, Internet-of-Things, Blockchain) can be used to explore innovative opportunities, gain competitive advantage, and increase operational efficiency.

 Topics:

1. Information systems as portfolios os heterogeous digital solutions. Classification according to business value and implications

2. Consideration of digital technologies in strategic planning

3. The impact of digital technologies in business model design

4. Enterprise architecture as a tool for organizational-IT alignment. Definition and automation of business rules and business processes

5. The adoption process for keystone technologies and the relevance of socio-technical issues
