Teaching Methods

The seminar-based format of the curricular unit presupposes active participation by the students. Besides the lecturer providing a conceptual framework from the outset, critical analysis and discussion of key texts are privileged throughout the sessions.

Learning Outcomes

Main learning outcome:

- Provide the students with the fundamental knowledge to understand international dynamics at the level of foreign policy, stimulating their critical analytical skills

 

Specific learning outcomes and skills:

- Familiarize students with the main theoretical and conceptual debates associated with the formulation and implementation of foreign policy, such as institutional structures, agenda setting, decision making processes.

- Provide students with basic frameworks to analyse States' foreign policies;

- Identify goals, actors and instruments involved in the formulation and conduction of foreign policies, applying them to concrete case-studies, such as the United States of America, the Russian Federation, the Popular Republic of China, India or South Africa, among others.
