Teaching Methods

The course combines lectures focusing on the analysis and critical evaluation of the European integration dynamics, in its diffrent dymensions (also including both teacher presentations and debates with students, based on the recommended readings), with more practical classes where distinct methods of teaching will be used, including analysis of historical and EU official documents; handling of the Lisbon Treaty; simulation exercise; and debates of reading materials.  

Learning Outcomes

Main learning outcome:

- Understand the historical na politcal processes that underlay european integration.

 

Specific learning outcomes and skills:

- Develop capacities to analyse the legal and political framework of the European Union, particularly the division of competences among EU instituions and its decision-making procedures;

- Develop capacities to map and criticaly analyse the normative and functional dimensions of the EU's public policies that have a bigger impact in the Union's international presence, namely thorugh the application of diffrenet theoretical frameworks;

- Develop practical skills of analysis and problem solving as well as of ellaboration of concrete proposals for political action by the different EU institutions.
