Teaching methods include sessions centred on the themes previously defined, complemented by moments of discussion and analysis of texts that allow an in-depth knowledge of the historical moments in analysis.

Learning Outcomes

Main learning outcome

- Understand and analyse the main topics and problems pertaining to the development of International Relations through a historical perspective.

Specific learning outcomes and skills

- Get acquainted with the main events that marked the history of international relations between the beginning of the "age of revolutions" and the end of the Cold War (1789-1989);

- Understand the socioeconomic and political forces that have shaped the different configurations of the new international system in this period;

- Analyse the connections between the most relevant historical facts and the global balances/imbalances of power.

1. History of International Relations: theoretical perspectives, concepts, issues and main paradigms;

2. Two revolutions: liberalisms and inudstrial capitalisms;

3. The Concert of Europe and its challenges;

4. From imperialism to the First World War;

5. From peace to the Second World War;

6. The origins of the Cold War;

7. Cold War, decolonization and the Third World;

8. Capitalism, socialism and globalization;

9. From the end of the Cold War to the end of history.
