French-Portuguese Translation

Recommended Prerequisites

French 1, French 2 and French 3.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical presentation of concepts and translation tools.

Practice of contrastive analysis, paraphrase and texts’ translation.

Learning Outcomes

Students will learn basic concepts and tools for the translation of French texts. By the end of the semester, they should be capable of:

(i) translating to Portuguese, with the aid of dictionaries, French texts of different kinds (press texts, Social Sciences and Humanities texts and literary texts)

(ii) identifying lexical, semantic and syntactic correspondences between French and Portuguese structures

(iii) translate false friends.
