Teaching Methods

Expositive lectures resting on theoretical and socio-historical frameworking; analysis and critical reflection based on written or audiovisual materials; research work in group or individually; presentation and discussion of papers. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this Course Unit, students should be able to:

Relate education with characteristics of societies of different times and cultures;

Understand the meaning of modernity and the relationship with the evolution of contemporary education;

Understand perspectives on Humanity, Development and Education in the second half of the 20th century and first decades of the 21rst century;

Know the implications for social inclusion of the International Bill of Human Rights and other international treaties strengthening human rights.

Characterize the diversities related to education.

Understand the evolution of Special Education and Inclusive Education in national and international contexts.

Know the legal framework of inclusive education in Portugal.

Develop critical thinking about the functioning of schools in Portugal and the functions of Special Education teachers.

Reflect on the challenges and opportunities of inclusion for the realisation of education for all.
