Teaching Methods
Teaching methodologies vary considerably from module to module, including lectures, audiovisual materials, practical examples, and classroom discussions. Still, each module will always cover theoretical and practical aspects related to the design of research plans. The work for assessing this curricular unit consists of preparing a research project proposal and its presentation and discussion.
Learning Outcomes
This course has as main objective the discussion of paradigms and methodologies that support scientific research in health.
On completion of this course students must meet a set of research methodologies and be able to analyze their potentialities and limitations, as well as respond to the objectives proposed for the research develop.

Giving an identical emphasis to qualitative and quantitative approaches, the main focus is on the development of the competencies needed to develop appropriate and consistent research plans. The topics addressed in the various modules will stem from the expressed and detected needs of each year's students.
The following topics are addressed:
(1) The research process: assumptions and stages;
(2) Literature review and bibliographic databases;
(3) Primary and secondary sources of data;
(4) Data collection: methods and procedures – observation, interview and questionnaire;
(5) Data analysis: qualitative and quantitative techniques;
(6) Design of a research proposal: key components and assessment criteria.
