Teaching Methods

This course unit will be taught as a seminar: presentation of contents, clarification of doubts and supervision of tasks by teachers; preparation, presentation, and discussion of tasks by students. Experts will also be invited to deliver lectures.

Learning Outcomes

Deepen knowledge on the various stages of the evolution process and the currents that structure cultural heritage policies and practices; forms of involvement of the surrounding communities in the functioning of institutions and organizations governing cultural heritage; as well as on research and intervention methodologies in the spheres of patrimonialization and dissemination, management and programming, and conservation and rehabilitation.

Acquisition of skills for researching cultural heritage and memory policies; for analysing the potential, limitations, and implications of each intervention methodology in the context of cultural heritage; and for designing, implementing, and evaluating cultural heritage projects.

2. Civilization and cultural heritage.

3. Monuments and museums - protection, conservation, and restoration areas.

4. Societies and cultures, the system of international relations and political regimes, UNESCO and cultural heritage.

5. Tangible and intangible cultural heritage - conservation and rehabilitation.

6. Cultural heritage and memory policies.

7. Research and intervention methodologies in the spheres of patrimonialization and dissemination, management and programming, and conservation and rehabilitation.

Assessment
In addition to the mandatory evaluation elements — bibliographic and documentary research work (15 pages of text including footnotes), critical review (7 pages), presentation and discussion of a topic —, students are encouraged to participate in classes, write observation reports, and organize and participate in dialogue conferences and field trips, etc.: 100.0%
