Recommended Prerequisites

Students must have a strong background in mechanical behaviour and strength of materials and structural analysis.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical/practical lectures:
- Presentation of theoretical concepts, normative models and illustrative examples presented orally and using audio-visual resources.

- Autonomous work of the students who organize and develop 3 assignments under the supervision of the teacher.

- Work of the students in experimental laboratory with the supervision of the teacher.

- Field visit to construction works and/or steelwork companies.

- Final exam (2 possibilities) using eurocodes, with a duration of 3h.

Learning Outcomes

- An overview of the complexity involved in the field of steel structures.

- Understanding of theoretical models and regulations applicable to the analysis and design of steel structures.

- Specific knowledge of European regulations on the design of steel and composite structures - Eurocode 3.

- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in solving problems related to analysis and design of steel structures.

- Capability of written exposure.

Work Placement(s)
