Teaching Methods

This course unit will be taught as a seminar: presentation of contents, clearing of doubts, and supervision of tasks by the teachers; preparation, presentation, and discussion of tasks by the students. Experts will also be invited to deliver lectures.

Learning Outcomes

Further develop knowledge on the links between the humanities, the social sciences and cultural heritage/museology; on the correlation between deontological questions in the contexts of the humanities and social sciences and of cultural heritage/museology; and on the value of studying cultural heritage and museology policies.

Acquisition of skills in researching the humanities and social sciences fields, in the drafting and implementation of cultural heritage/museology projects, and in the assessment of cultural heritage/museology policies and projects.

Syllabus

1. History of the relation of human societies with cultural heritage and museums.

2. History of conceptions and policies, of legislation and institutions/organizations, and of practices in the field of cultural heritage.

3. Fundamental concepts at the deontological, epistemological, theoretical, and methodological levels. Contemporary epistemological paradigms.

4. Theory and history of the humanities and social sciences.

5. Common sense/ideology, arts, humanities, sciences, and technologies.

6. Research/dissemination in humanities/social sciences and research/intervention in cultural heritage and museums.

7. Remains, documents, cultural heritage (tangible and intangible; movable, integrated, and immovable), and natural heritage.

Assessment
In addition to the mandatory evaluation elements — bibliographic and documentary research work (15 pages of text including footnotes), critical review (7 pages), presentation and discussion of a topic —, students are encouraged to participate in classes, write observation reports, and organize and participate in dialogue conferences and field trips, etc.: 100.0%
