Learning Outcomes

Students will expand and reinforce their oral and written skills in Japanese. They will also gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture in the world context, based on the didactic materials made available by the instructor.

Syllabus

Japanese Language: Following from Japanese Language and Culture I, II and III, students will learn everyday communication and acquire the ability to speak about simple subjects in Japanese, as well as their family, work and city. Students will learn more Kanjie characters: writing in combination Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana and their rules; they will read and interpret small texts; and write using a wider vocabulary. In grammar, they will deepen the grammatical particles, verbs and their conjugation forms, sentence structure with sugimasu, narimasu, maeni, naide, tari_tari_shimasu, n_desu, noun-modifier, to_omoimasu/itte_imashita, informal sentence (plain form) and its conjugations, adversative conjugation, etc.

Japanese Culture: Introduction to traditional Japanese culture and comparison with current trends of younger generations, as well as eating out, Japanese companies and their products, knowledge about health, gift giving/receiving tags.
