Recommended Prerequisites

Electromagnetics; Waves and Propagation, Electronic for Telecomunications

Teaching Methods

Theoretical and practical classes with a detailed presentation of the concepts, principles, and fundamental theories. In addition, several basic practical exercises will be solved to illustrate the practical interest of the subject and exemplify its application to real cases. Laboratorial classes where the student will experimentally characterize the radiation properties of some standard antennas. Design of simple microwave circuits with the support of a simulation platform, fabrication and experimental assessment.

Learning Outcomes

Learning the fundamental principles of the radiation and propagation of electromagnetic waves and their application to the analysis, design and characterization of the most common types of antennas used in telecommunications. To provide the fundamental concepts of radio frequency engineering for the analysis, design and characterization of microwave circuits. This course provides students with the practical application of these concepts through contact with a microwave and antenna instrumention laboratory and the possibility to perform microwave and antenna design using specialized simulation software such Advanced Signal System (ADS), CSTDesign Studio Suite and/or AntennaMagus to design simple microwave circuits and antennas.
