Recommended Prerequisites

The pre-requisites of this course are those corresponding to the application for the MSc course CMM.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methods of lectures aim at the global learning of the discipline.

The lectures are supported in the literature and presentations, with the support of media. There is an opportunity to discuss the concepts and more difficult issues. Occasionally students are invited to attend lectures by visiting specialists. Tutorial lessons (22.5 hours) will be to answer questions and to help in the final project.

Syllabus

Introduction: Benchmarking with other industries. Process oriented organisations- IT systems in manufacturing industries, Concurrent Engineering.

Planning Activity: Production (CPM schedules) and location based (Line of balance) planning methods. Production planning of construction activities using recipes and quantities. Assignment 2.

Production simulation: (4D) Adapting the 3D model for production simulation. Linking scheduled activities to the production model. Simulation and analysis. Taken into account other production aspects such as equipment (cranes), transport routes and working environment. Assignment 3.

A final project will be handed out where groups of students will present a virtual design an construction solution of a small construction project at the end of the course.
