Recommended Prerequisites

Building Materials, Strength of Materials, Reinforced Concrete and Structural Analysis (master's degree level).

Teaching Methods

The expository component is presented with the support of slides that gather most of the information to be transmitted. In this part the students' critical intervention is strongly encouraged.

The modelling, analysis and design examples are solved on the blackboard, with the colabotaion of the students.

In the last five minutes of each lesson, two questions are given about the covered topics, to which the students present a written response.

Learning Outcomes

After this curricular unit, students will be able to:

A) Understand the main chemical and physical mechanisms of production of concrete and steel and of reinforced concrete degradation

B) Know and identify the main pathologies of reinforced concrete

C) Lead a preliminary inspection and a detailed inspection, to plan field campaigns and to analyse results

D) Know the main methods of intervention in the conservation and strengthening of concrete structures and elements

E) Establish models for existing reinforced concrete structures and carry out their numerical analysis in order to determine the demand on the elements.

F) Proceed to the analysis, design, execution and quality control of strengthening solutions.
