Recommended Prerequisites

Recommended knowledge comes from a degree in Sports Science, with a greater emphasis on the curricular units of Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics / Kinesiology, Training Methodology, Physical Conditioning Methods and Training Planning and Periodization . Given the specialty of the curricular unit, knowledge about canoeing at the Licenciatura level is fundamental, as well as the frequency of the curricular unit Specific Training I - Canoeing is supposed.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodologies are different according to the type of the sessions. Theoretical classes will be predominantly expository, in which students will have contact with the syllabus, while the theoretical-practical classes will favor an active participation of the student, emphasizing guided learning situations. This will include the discussion of proposed topics and experimentation in the conditions of practice. The evaluation process recommended in the curricular unit promotes the theoretical mastery of the subjects covered, as well as problem solving tasks and fieldwork.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit is oriented towards the development of advanced skills for the performance of the activity of canoeing coach. Thus, at the end of the curricular unit, having completed specific training I - Canoeing, which is related to this, the student must be able to respond to a varied set of problems that are posed to canoeing coaches, listed in the syllabus.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: (1) know the athlete's long-term development plan, as well as the specific knowledge of the sport regarding the selection and identification of talents; (2) master the specific aspects of Canoeing (according to the specificity of the distance of the race) in relation to the planning and periodization of the training; (3) identify the advanced methods of canoe training evaluation- sprint discipline; (4) reflect on the coach's activity as a professional.

- Long-term athlete development (DALP); Selection and identification of talents;

- Training planning and periodization: annual and multi-annual planning, the macrocycle, mesocycle, microcycle and the training session (according to the competition distance);

- Advanced training control methods;

- The relationship with the athlete: The athlete's behavior, motivation and mental training;

- The coach's job. Role of the coach in competition.
