Recommended Prerequisites

The ones from a degree in Sports Science, with a greater emphasis on the subjects of Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics / Kinesiology, Training Methodology, Methods of Physical Conditioning and Training Planning and Periodization. Given the specificity of the course, knowledge about canoeing at a Bachelor's level is essential.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodologies are different according to the type of the sessions. Theoretical classes will be predominantly expository, in which students will have contact with the syllabus, while the theoretical-practical classes will favor an active participation of the student, emphasizing guided learning situations. This will include the discussion of proposed topics and experimentation in the conditions of practice. The evaluation process recommended in the curricular unit promotes the theoretical mastery of the subjects covered, as well as problem solving tasks and fieldwork.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit is oriented towards the development of advanced skills for the performance of the activity of canoeing coach. Thus, at the end of the curricular unit, and at the end of Sport Specific Training II - Canoeing, which is related to this curricular unit, the student must be able to respond to a varied set of problems that are posed to canoeing coaches, listed in the syllabus.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: (1) master the technical model (high competitive level) of paddling in kayak and canoe, in single and crew boats, also considering the competition distance; (2) recognize the propulsive and resistive forces that act on the system and master advanced knowledge of hydrodynamics, related to the need for individualization of the equipment (kayak / canoe and paddle) and respective performance; (3) mastering the use of training resources / tools and technical assessment.
