Recommended Prerequisites

The student should have passed or will be attending the subjects that correspond to key dimensions of analysis in a business plan, including Marketing, Strategy, Operations Management, and Finances and Accounting.

Teaching Methods

The method will be expository and it will involve students' active participation. It will include the continuous monitoring of compliance with interim targets for implementing the project, as well as presentation and discussion of the project at the end of the semester. 

Learning Outcomes

The general goal is to provide to the students knowledge about the planning of new businesses and about the interplay among the different components of a business plan.

 

In the end of the course the students should have the following competences:

i) understanding the main challenges inherent to the creation of new businesses;

ii) identify and generate opportunities to create new businesses;

iii) develop a business plan.

Syllabus

The projeto is an individual assignment that implies the creation of a structured business plan in accordance with the following topics:

- From idea to business concept

- Market and competition

- Characterization of the products and services

- Operations and investments

- People

- Legal aspects of business creation

- Financial aspects of business creation

During the semester students will be also exposed to topics related to their business plan, namely innovation, communication, negotiation and evaluation of business risks.
