Teaching Methods

For each objective, the methodology begins with a brief theoretical exposition of the underlying concepts, followed by a computational example, with definition of objectives and fillings to be included in the report. The assignments are performed sequentially and out of the classes, and these are used to clarify doubts. The oral defense of the work is done at the end of the semester, consisting of a discussion of reports.

Learning Outcomes

The specific objectives of the unit are:

- To provide the students with competences for defining and combining actions in normal buildings, including the seismic action defined by response spectrum;

- To provide computational skills in modelling and analysis of normal buildings;

- To reinforce the design skills of reinforced concrete components;

- To consolidate the competence for checking the safety and serviceability requirements on normal buildings;

- To stimulate the critic sense of the students, so that they can predict the final results in Structural Design activity;

- to familiarize students with a structural analysis program, relating it to other common productivity tools in structural design, such as writing, result-handling and drawing programs.

In general, this unit aims to provide the competence to design a normal concrete building.
