Teaching Methods

Classes with detailed explanation, using visual media, of the concepts, principles and fundamental theories followed by solving application examples to fill the student needs as the subject are concerned. The students, under the teacher guidance, must develop skills to solve, on their own, additional practical problems and the project of a prestressed concrete structure.

Learning Outcomes

Complement the knowledge from previous curricular units of the same cycle of studies and also previous cycle of studies concerning the design of concrete structures. The students are provided with the fundamental knowledge about: analysis, design and detailing of prestressed structures; analysis, design and detailing of discontinuity zones in structural concrete using stress fields models.

Acquiring capabilities in synthesis and analysis, autonomous learning, practical application of theoretical knowledge, oral and written communication, critic reflection, solving structural design problems of prestressed concrete structures and discontinuity regions in structural concrete members.

2.2. Analysis and design with strut-and-tie models. NP EN1992-1-1 provisions

2.3. Analysis, design and detailing of discontinuity regions (anchorage zones of prestressed members, deep beams, corbels, column footings, walls, members with openings or with irregular geometry).
