Teaching Methods

The traditional blackboard lecture style is used for the motivation and detailed exposition of the fundamental ideas, concepts and methods; this is combined with the discussion of the different solutions. The student is confronted with a set of study cases which are analysed with the aim of suggesting to him lines of disciplined thought in dealing with different problems and to promote his autonomy.

Domain of the basic concepts on inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of foundations and structures.

Capacity to identify the most common anomalies, their causes and their consequences.

Decision making capacity about when and how to intervene.

C: Structures and structural elements of timber and masonry

1- Basic concepts on timber and masonry, and application to existing sstructures

2- Main pathologies of existing timber and/or masonry structures or structural elements
