Knowledge of Physics I and II, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electromagnetism, Analysis and Processing of Signals, Programming (Matlab) at the level of 1st cycle of studies.

Development of biosensor devices for identification of specific compounds in important areas as health, environment, food industry and others.

To know the features of the main physiological and environmental transducers and their applications

To know the methods for detection, measurement and recording of biomedical signals.

To know the methods for biomedical signal analysis.

To know the main application areas in biomedicine.

 

- Biomedical signals acquisition using a data acquisition system.

- Acquisition setup: sampling frequency as function of signal bandwidth.

- Design digital filters both in time- and frequency-domain.

- To know event detection methods.

Introduction to biosensors.

Analytical performance (selectivity, sensitivity, reproducibility; limit of detection and response time).

Biorecognition element: kind; immobilization.

Materials and surfaces for integration.

Signal transduction (electrochemical optical, piezoelectric, calorimetric and field-effect transistor).

Applications (includes wearables, implants and microneedles).

Transducers. Performance factors. In vitro and in vivo monitoring. Lab-on-a-chip

Biosensors stability. The evolution of the glucose biosensor. Last generation biosensors. Future prospects.

Biomedical signals. Nature and features.

Physical principles of direct sensors. Static and dynamic parameters of instrumentation.

Analysis of concurrent, coupled and correlated processes.

Interference and noise. Filtering. Sampling. Quantization and aliasing errors.

Optimal Filtering: The Wiener filter. Adaptive filtering.
