Teaching Methods

Theoretical classes to present the subjects of the curricular unit. In these classes audiovisual materials are used to illustrate the concepts taught.

Practical classes for problem solving. Problems are selected to reflect typical problems that may be found in practice. Problem solving is done in groups, and the teacher is available in class to help students overcome difficulties.

Study visits are made for students to verify the practical application of the subjects covered in the course.

Learning Outcomes

This course presents the theoretical foundations for solving operational and supply chain problems. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1) know and apply the fundamental concepts of operations management for solving real industrial and services companies problems;

2) have an integrated view of operations management in organizations, including concepts, techniques and strategies, as well as being able to identify and address problems using quantitative methods to solve them;

3) understand the need and role of forecasting methods, inventory and production planning, and scheduling of operations in production systems and supply chains;

4) Know and apply lean manufacturing concepts and tools to reduce waste and increase the efficiency of production systems.
