Recommended Prerequisites

Strength of Materials, Applied Mechanics I e II, Science and Engineering of Materials, Mechanical Behaviour of Materials, Introduction to Mechanical Design, Machine elements.

Teaching Methods

lasses take place in theoretical and theoretical-practical regime. Theoretical classes expose the fundamental concepts in the form of conferences using transparencies and multimedia media. Theoretical-practical classes apply the concepts given in the theoretical classes through the discussion of some problems solved, previously made available to students, intending that students have an active participation.

Learning Outcomes

Provide students with a broad and integrative capacity calculation of mechanical components in projects involving springs, mounts with clamping of stationary and rotary discs, transmissions of power or energy in continuous and transitional regimes. Calculation methods are presented for gear transmission, brakes and clutches. At the end of the course, students will be able to: make the design of these machine elements, based on analytical methods and dedicated software, developing a critical sense and establishing strategies to optimize design.
