Recommended Prerequisites

Strength of Materials I e II, Applied Mechanics, Science and Engineering of Materials, Mechanical Behaviour of Materials, Introduction to Mechanical Design

Teaching Methods

Classes take place in theoretical and theoretical-practical regime. Theoretical classes expose the fundamental concepts in the form of conferences using transparencies and multimedia media. Theoretical-practical classes apply the concepts given in the theoretical classes through the discussion of some problems solved, previously made available to students, intending that students have an active participation..

Learning Outcomes

Provide students with a broad knowledge of the ability of calculating mechanical components in projects involving power or energy transmissions in continuous and transient regimes. Calculation methods for elements of the main mechanical transmissions are presented. At the end of the course, the student will be able to: select the type of transmission best suited to the particular service conditions of a particular case; perform simplified sizing of cylindrical wheel gear and worm/wheel elements based on analytical methods; make a complete selection of the several types of flexible mechanical transmission elements based on manufacters catalogs.

Work Placement(s)
