Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Hydraulics or Flui Mechanics, Numerical Methods, Hydrology and Water Resources.

Teaching Methods

Detailed theoretical exposition of the contents, followed by demonstration and application, preferably (if possible) in laboratory, or through case studies.

Learning Outcomes

It is intended to address, in this course, inter- and multidisciplinarity issues, providing systematic and comprehensive information and suggesting the use of several useful tools for the study of potential events and interventions in river and coastal areas. Accordingly, bearing in mind the context in which this course is inserted, the following objectives are highlighted: i) to deepen the theoretical knowledge, whose foundations were acquired in previous courses, ii) contribute to solve practical dysfunctions of natural or anthropogenic origin, and iii) sensitize students to the:

 - installation and maintenance of effective river regularization and flood protection systems;

 - need for regular and effective monitoring of morphodynamic processes and of key water quality parameters;

 - importance of installing surveillance, monitoring and warning systems;

 - need to evaluate and control the main coastal unbalancing agents.
