Recommended Prerequisites

Being able to read and comprehend portuguese and english.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical presentation;

Survey of stereotypes and alternative concepts of science, and alternative concepts about sexuality and gender;

Discussion and review of contradictory concepts about identity and gender, and contradictions about gender identity.

Debates organized by groups of students.

Role-play and investigation projects about prejudices on sexuality.

Learning Outcomes

To recognize problems that arise in the personal construction of identity and that permeate aspects of the social construction of gender and social roles. Understand and deconstruct stereotypes. To question and recognize differences between individuals regarding sex, gender, and sexual identity. Acknowledge developmental patterns and normative expressions of sexuality. Understand and develop attitudes in order to pay attention to aspects of the experience of normative and non-normative sexuality in counseling contexts.
