- the main principles, concepts, methodologies and tools for the analyses and the integrated water resources management
- the understanding of the various issues involved (social, economic, environmental, technological, legal and political) in the sustainable water resources and ecosystems management.
- skills in using scientific methods for simulation and decision-making of water resources management.

Hydrologic cycle and different sources of water. Water availability and sustainability of its management. Identification of pressures and description of significant impacts. Classification of water bodies. Management of water to master its scarcity and excess, its spatial and temporal variability. Principle of integrated water management and associated ecosystems.
Water Framework Directive. Water Law. SNIRH. Legal instruments for water resources planning. National Water Plan and River Basin / Region Plans. Allocation of water resources to different activities and environmental restrictions. Integration of technical, environmental, economic and social perspectives in the design of programs of measures for the sustainable planning of water resources. Multicriteria analysis. Risk and vulnerability concepts. Reliability, resilience and robustness of water systems. The adaptation of water systems to future uncertainty. The flexible solutions.
