Recommended Prerequisites

Approval in the curricular unit Laboratory of Applied Sociology.

Teaching Methods

In this course, the students will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired to the portfolio built during the course. The classes will be occupied with: discussion, presentation of syntheses, writing practices and other activities energized by the students. During the course each student should present sketches of individual portfolio descriptions and make two short oral presentations.

Learning Outcomes

The main objective is to prepare students as practitioners of applied sociology, that is, to be able, at the end of the course, to apply sociological theories and methodologies in the analysis and resolution of social problems and in the design of public policies. For this they must be able:

1. to understand the purpose and the use of applied sociology in concrete cases;

2. reflect on experiences resulting from contacts with the field;

3. identify the causes of unexpected events in an organization or community;

4. master the techniques of social intervention in view of social change;

5. identify cultural issues, tensions and conflicts in the workplace and in organizations;

6. identify and develop the skills required in various work contexts.

1. Application of theories and methods;

2. Functions of applied sociology in various contexts;

3. Case studies in applied sociology in different fields of work - health, education, housing, workplace conflicts, leadership styles, etc.;

4. Debates in public sociology;

5. Epistemological and ethical issues.
